On a 12-3 vote, the House Regulatory Reform Committee passed Senate Bill (SB) 20, legislation preventing a department, commission, or board from promulgating rules requiring companies to enforce ergonomic standards. The House panel addressed the legislation less than a week after receiving the measure from the Senate.
Speaker Announces Campaign Team
The full composition of the House Republican Campaign Committee was announced by Speaker Jase Bolger (R-Marshall). In addition to returning Chair Rep. Pete Lund (R-Shelby Township ) and Finance Co-Chairs Reps. John Walsh (R-Livonia) and Joe Haveman (R-Holland), the 2011-2012 committee will consist of Reps. Jeff Farrington (R-Utica), Peter MacGregor (R-Rockford), Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton), Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City ), Deb Shaughnessy (R-Charlotte), and Jim Stamas (R-Midland).
Brewer Re-Elected
Detroit TV producer Ron Scott ended his run for Michigan Democratic Party Chair Saturday morning at the state convention when convention rules required him to pay a $1,000 fee to be on the ballot. Incumbent Chair Mark Brewer was then elected on a unanimous ballot. In other news from the convention, United Auto Workers (UAW) President Bob King was elected to fill a vacancy as a member of the Democratic National Committee.
