Arwood Heads to MEDC, Zimmer Takes Over
LARA
Governor
Rick Snyder announced Monday that Steve Arwood, former Director of the
Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), will become the new
Chief Operating Officer for Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
effective immediately. The Chief Deputy Director of LARA, Mike Zimmer, has
become acting Director for the Department.
Voting Exceeds Expectations
1.32
million people voted in the primary elections this year, a much higher turnout
than some expected. The number of voters represents 17.9 percent of all voters
and 20.3 percent of active voters. The average turnout is 19.76 percent. This
turnout is the lowest since 2006 when 1.28 million people voted. A suspected
factor in the low turnout is the open gubernatorial and U.S. Senate primaries
for both parties.
