Bishop to Run for Oakland County Prosecutor

Former State Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop (R-Rochester) has filed as a candidate for Oakland County Prosecutor in the coming election. Mr. Bishop has been practicing law with Clark Hill since being term limited from the Senate and will be challenging incumbent Democratic County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper.

SFA Report Includes Increased Revenue Estimates

The Senate Fiscal Agency (SFA) issued their projections this week that will be used at the January 13^th Revenue Estimating Conference with the House Fiscal Agency and the Department of Treasury. The report projects $19.8 billion in the General and School Aid Funds for the current 2011-2012 fiscal year, up nearly $400 million from the May numbers. The report also estimates 2012-2013 fiscal year numbers for the two funds at $19.9 billion, up $67.4 million from earlier projects.

Kent County Area Special Commission to Meet on Consolidation

A special commission composed of Kent County Commissioners, Grand Rapids City Council members and representatives from surrounding townships and smaller municipalities will be meeting in 2012 to discuss potential savings through consolidation and collaboration. Kent County is Michigan’s 4^th largest county.

EM Law Repeal Effort Reaches Signature Goal

The Committee to Stand Up for Democracy (CSUD), the coalition leading the effort to repeal the Emergency Manager Law (Public Act 4 of 2011), announced that they have passed the 170,000 signature mark. 161,304 valid signatures would be required to get the question of repealing the law on the November 2012 ballot.
